Geometry Foldables and Some Freebies

I haven't really been paying attention for a while now but thanks to a comment left by Kimberly at Live, Laugh, I LOVE Kindergarten (She's having her 300 follower giveaway right now so head on over HERE)...I'm at 200+ followers...YAY ME and so much thanks to you all.  You have all amped my teaching this year.  Just when I was starting to get stale...I feel like a new teacher again thanks to really...thank you!  I think it's time for a think???  Any ideas??

It's been all geometry and test prep in my neck of the woods.  I had this big long post almost finished last night when an error occured and message was gone.  So this one isn't going to be as detailed (sorry) but hopefully you'll get the gist.
Points, Lines, and Angles Anchor Chart

Obtuse Angles (page of flipbook)

Foldable with Geometry Terms (Flipbook)

a little cutie with her finished product!

We did an anchor chart so they could complete a 10 term Vocabulary Foldable (flipbook). I think the terms we used were...point, line, line segment, acute angle, right angle, obtuse angle, parallell lines, perpendicular lines, intersecting lines, and ray.  The students staggered the pages and I came around to flip and staple and they used the anchor chart to write the definition as well as three examples on that particular flap.  They are getting quite good and foldables and using the anchor chart to complete their work.  Today I put up a bunch of shapes with definitions one at a time.  They practiced naming their attributes and drawing them on their whiteboard (I'll take a picture tomorrow for you).  So that leads me to tomorrow.  I'm thinking about using one of Kagan's Cooperative Learning Strategies...Quiz-Quiz-Trade or Bunting, Books, and Bainbridge's Back to Back Games to review these new flash/task cards.  I really don't know what they are but they are what I needed to play one of the games above.  You can download the flash/task cards HERE or click one of the below pictures if you could use them in any way...there's about 14 pages of these in the document.  Make sure to copy them back to back so that the answers are on back of the questions. I put the correct page number in the middle of the page so that you (or me) wouldn't get them mixed up before copying.  I hope that didn't give my "airhead" brain lately :)

Now for the games...HERE is a copy of someone's pdf to Kagan's Quiz-Quiz-Trade game if you've never played it before.  There's also a video on You Tube HERE
Christina Bainbridge  from Bunting, Books, and Bainbridge came up with this great review game called Back to Back.  Read about it HERE .  She also shows a short video clip of her students playing it.  It help explains it really well and is worth watching the 3 minute clip.  So last night, I typed up her directions for Back to Back from her blog and added some clip art hand sign signals to help kids learn the signs.  If you would like a copy of that as well...just click the picture below.

Well that a nutshell of my post last night.  I hope you get some use out of the games or task/flash cards.  I'll see you tomorrow with some more geometry ideas.  Have a good night!

Getting Acquainted and Giveaways

Here are three great giveaways you have to check out!  Click on pictures to take you to the giveaway.  As well as entering the giveaway, I found a lot of incredible blogs to follow!

And now for one of my favorite linkies ....

The NOUN Game
The noun game is where you simply just name your favorite person, place, thing, and animal.
Heres mine.....

My huband, Tom...most definitely.  He is my rock and my best friend.  I can't imagine my life without this man!

anywhere there's a beach by the ocean.  It doesn't even have to be someplace warm...just the sound and smell of the ocean with the sand between my toes....

my computer...sad but true.  I fall asleep with it on my lap every night and my husband always takes it off my lap and sets it on the floor so it doesn't break. I'm getting a new one next week though...any ideas of what kind I should get???

now don't hate me....I'm not a huge animal lover.  I do however have two adorable cats and a lover of a dog that I never want anything to happen to.  My dog is just a big, 107 pound, golden retriever, I would say dogs would have to be my favorite right now.

Have a good night!  I have some fun geometry ideas that I will share pictures of tomorrow with an anchor chart plus a freebie...make sure you check out my Chick Shape Plunge freebie HERE from last week if you haven't's a fun geometry attributes game your kiddos will love.

Five For Friday with a Freebie or Two

Happy Friday peeps!  I'm home with a sick child so I'm actually getting some things caught up...including my blog.  A lot of happenings this week so here are my Five for Friday.  Link up by clicking the button above...the more the merrier!

1.  If you read my truths and a lie for the Getting Acquainted Linky answers are.....
#1...TRUTH...yes I married my high school sweetheart.  This September will be our 19th year of marriage (am I really that old???).  He is a firefighter and going for captain too!  I couldn't be more in love or more proud of him!
The fam before Carrie Underwood Concert!

#2....LIE ....I can't stand birds.  And if you read my post before I updated actually said "I'm scared of birds."  I meant that to be my lie but actually told the truth on all three (airhead or truthful...who really knows :) So...I updated it to say I LOVE BIRDS!  Which is absolutely, totally, completely a LIE.  They scare me to death.  The funny thing about this classroom is decorated with owls.  Go figure!  I only like the cute, paper, cut out kinds...real owls actually freak me out :)

#3...Sadly the TRUTH....I don't watch too much tv but when I do watch's reality tv.  I don't have a great attention span so that's why I don't watch dramas or series on television...I don't like watching movies at all...cannot sit still for that long:)

2.  I've been playing Scoot with many of my task cards I have made or bought.  Check my collection of task cards HERE.  I've made a few more this week.  My kids love Scoot!  They don't realize that all they are really doing is a worksheet with 24 problems!!!  It's amazing what turning something into a game can do for a child's attitude about the same content.  Here's a couple pics of them trying to compare they had a whiteboard with them to either draw them out or cross multiply to add their <, >, or =.

3.  I mentioned in #2 that I've made some new task cards with rules for Scoot included just in case.  These are a few that I worked on this week.  You can tell we're getting ready for state testing by the types of task cards I'm making lately.  Really fun task cards are in the works and will be ready in the spring when "THE TEST" is finally over.

Elapsed Time Task Cards
Algebraic Expressions Task Cards  For example 9 - x  = 2
Grades 1-2 Word Problems Task Cards
Balancing Equations Task Cards
Here are a few of my new sets.  I added some primary task cards for those 1-2 graders too. And if you click here and here you will find my task card FREEBIES  from previous posts.

4.  I SO love Easter...especially bunnies...adorable little bunnies!  Ok..I have a sad little story to share really quick.  Long story short...I had a bunny when I was little that I absolutely adored.  My dad made me keep it outside during the winter and I thought it would be too cold so my dad put some sort of heating lamp in the cage for Fluffy.  In the middle of the night, my parents woke up to the screeching sound of my bunny.  The cage had caught on fire...killing my Fluffy...and almost burning down our house.  It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.  I was devastated!  But if that bunny wouldn't have screamed, our entire house would have caught fire and we may not be alive today.  Anyway...sad story but that's the reason I love bunnies so much.  So now to the point of this...I just made The Easter Bunny is Missing!!!! Craftivity.  They write a story related to a the book The Easter Bunny is Missing and then create an adorable, floppy-eared bunny (like Fluffy).  When you display them, the writing portion goes under the belly so the belly flips up with the story underneath.  Too cute!
The Easter Bunny is Missing Craftivity

5.  I didn't realize how busy I've been this week.  It feels so good to have a productive week.  So now it's time for a little FREEBIE!  I made a 26 page pack of printables to do in April.  The April Printables Pack covers the holidays Easter, April Fool's Day, and Earth Day.  The concepts covered in this packet are:
synonyms & antonyms
April word search
Earth Day Mini Book
congruent shapes
time (to five minutes)
3 digit addition
3 digit subtraction
basic multiplication
2 by 1 multiplication
problem solving
ABC order
ordering numbers
pictograph with questions

My kids are actually starting this today with my sub so I'll let you know how well it works.  It's very easy for you to prepare.  It's all blacklined so you just copy and print.  It includes fun games and activities for students to work on at their desk to allow you some time for assessment, sub plans, or just some down time.  It's ALL meaningful material as well as fun for the kids!
Here's where the freebie comes in.  Click HERE to download a page of my April Printables Pack.  It's the congruent shapes page.  There are a bunch of eggs in an easter basket with two shapes on each egg.  If the shapes are congruent, they color the egg.  If the shapes are not congruent, the egg remains uncolored.  Enjoy your freebie as well as your weekend!

Let's Get Aquainted Linky Party

I'm linking up with Flying into First Grade for her Let's Get Acquainted Linky Party.  Every Sunday, she posts a new topic to help us all get to know each other a little better.  What a great idea!  This week's topic is....

Two Truths and a Lie

How it Works:
Think of 3 things about yourself or your life.  You should make 2 of them truths and 1 of them a lie.   You can list them on your post in any order.  Do NOT give the answer yet in your post.  People will try  guess your lie in your in the comments of your post.  So remember to be very creative so that it is hard for people to get it right. At the end of the week you can share the answer in your comments from the post or include it in a post you make at the end of the week.

Here are mine...

1.  I married my high school sweetheart.

2.  I love birds!!!.

3. When I watch tv, it's always a reality show.

Shoot me a comment if you think you know my lie.  This is harder than you think!  I'll reveal my lie during the Five for Friday Linky.
Have a good Thursday and Link ON!!!

Better Late Than Never!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for

I know it's Saturday but was too exhausted to write a post last night.  I keep forgetting to take pictures of projects we do so some I'll just have to tell you about.

1.  I just love my class!  They are a low bunch, extremely talkative, and can't follow a direction to save their life!  But besides all of that...they are just good kids.  They are sweet, caring, and kind and that outweighs all the negatives in my mind.  Here's a couple photos we took this week.  They're not very flattering of me and I have a St. Patrick's day headband on but oh well.

2.  I posted this earlier in the week here. But our oreo moon phases were a hit!

3.  I found these adorable eggs at the Dollar Tree to hang up for Easter decorations.  I'm headed down there today to get some more....they had some bunnies too!

4.  I am in love with Task Cards right now.  They are fun to make and the students love them.  I have made enough for each of them to have a set (and I'm making more...can you say ocd???)  They just take these to their seat and record their answers on their recording sheet.  Sometimes we play Scoot with them too...which they love!

5.  Lastly, it has been a difficult week but I want to leave you with some quotes that helped me make it through the week.

Have a good Saturday!

Oreo Cookie Moon Phases

I'm really trying to blog a little everyday and share some more freebies.  I do a lot of my own stuff...I think I just get a little insecure to share what I've made.  I'm a very shy person who does not like to draw attention to myself and sometimes when I look around Pinterest, TpT, blogs, etc...I feel like.... "Why would anyone want my stuff when all this great stuff is out there?"  I know it's just silly and I need to get over it...which I am! Please say someone can relate...

Today was a exhausting fun day!  We have been doing Sun Earth & Moon Unit by Rachel Parlett at Classroom Game Nook.  Needless to has been incredible.  I sincerely think this is one of my best buys on TpT yet!  It is packed full of lessons, student pages with learning target I can statements, games, links to teacher tube & you tube videos.  I can't say enough good things about this unit if you teach sun, earth, & moon.

Today we did our last project which was Oreo Cookie Moon Phases...

Such a great activity!  I think my kids finally got it.  What you do is take oreo cookies (Double or Mega Stuff work best).  Students take the tops of...and eat it...then make the 8 moon phases out of the cream filling.  I had them put it on a paper plate and then I came around a hot glued it to it.  I just wanted to remind you of a couple of freebies I have just posted here and here including one blog exclusive freebie
Have a good night!

Midnight Freebie!

It's midnight and I can't sleep so.....that means a freebie...just for you!  This item is priced in my TpT store but because you are so loyal to my blog, I want to give it to you.  Just click one of the photos to download Fraction Word Problems Task Cards directly from my dropbox :)

I hope you like it!  I also finished a few short products this weekend as well as worked on a few BIG ones that are taking forever!  Here's a preview of what I finished this weekend...
Multi-Step Word Problems Task Cards

Multi-Step Word Problems Task Cards

As state testing nears, I'm starting to panic!  My kids really struggle with more than one direction...Please say I'm not the only one???  They love task cards so I thought that would be a perfect way to help them prepare.

Cause and Effect Task Cards

Cause and Effect Task Cards

Last week we worked on cause and effect...can I say "Deer in the headlights!"  You could hear crickets when I asked the effect of something.  I wanted to cry....Hence...Cause and Effect Task Cards!

Cake Walk...A Comparing Fractions Game

Cake Walk...A Comparing Fractions Game
Last but not Cake Walk...A Comparing Fractions Game.  I did a formative assessment last week and two-thirds really get it but I still need to work with the one-third that don't so I came up with this game that they can work on while I'm taking the others a little further.

I hope you all have a great Monday!
