Linkin' Up & Giveaways

I have spent the day doing one of my favorite things....blog stalking hopping.  I hardly ever have the time to really go and look through blogs and I'm so happy I did.  I have found the neatest people today.  You are all just so kind and welcoming.  Sometimes I feel silly leaving a blog comment when I don't know the person, but I'm glad I put myself out there today.  Thank you all for being so kind!
This is the first time doing this but I'm linkin' up (let me know if I'm doing it wrong)!!!
I have actually found three people to link up with today that are discussing the same thing.....New Year's Resolutions. So....first I'm linking with  Amanda over at Teaching Maddeness.  She has such a cute blog with great ideas.

I'm also linking up with Diane at Teaching with Moxie.  She reminds me of myself...she says she "gets so focused that she loses track of time".  That is so me...no really!  You should see my kitchen sink right now and you'd believe me wholeheartedly.

The last linky I'm linkin' to today is Michelle at Making it as a Middle School Teacher.  How much do I admire middle school teachers.....ALOT.  Having a 13 year old daughter has made me respect you all the more.  I love that little girl but WOW!  That's all I can say right now and stay positive about my darling little teenager...wow :)

To link up with all three of these at the same time, I'm going to use this cute little template made by Michelle (Making it as a Middle School Teacher).  It will hit all three birds with one stone.

So...here's my New Year's Resolutions...

Thank you to all of you today for making my first official linky...a great one!

One more thing before I go do my pile of dishes...ugh!  I just finished with great little New Year's writing project, "New Year's Resolution Friendly Letter Writing Craftivity."

Students will be writing a letter to a family member (or whoever they would like) explaining what they are learning about resolutions as well as three resolutions they have made for themselves this year. After writing...there is an adorable craftivity to accompany their letter. There are even three different hairstyles for the girls to choose from as well as three for the boys (they love this...my 10 year old daughter did as she did some new examples for me).

This unit includes:

What is a Resolution Poster
Planning Template (with temporal words)
Color & B/W Friendly Letter Writing Paper
Samples of Student Work for Modeling
Photos of Sample Craftivities and Letters
&
Craftivity Templates

This unit is great friendly letter practice, use of temporal words, and setting goals. I did include a What is a Resolution Poster, but I also like to use the book Squirrel's New Year's Resolution. It really helps kids grasp the concept of what a resolution is and how to set one.

Ok....one more thing!  Remember my giveaway...it ends Tuesday.  Who wants to go Nordies shopping???
and there is a HUGE and I mean HUGE giveaway at Second Grade Nest!  Check it out.

Sale!!!

One quick post to say....

Friday Freebie...Finally!

As I'm finally feeling better, I've had a chance to finish a couple of my products that have been in the works.  One is a Snowman Glyph Craftivity with Compare and Contrast Writing Activity.  I love doing glyphs but I always want to tie in some academic component.  Basically...I like to get a lot of bang for my buck or kill two birds with one stone!  Comparing and Contrasting is always a difficult concept for my students.  In my district, the language of how it needs to be written is very specific.  If the student uses pronouns instead of the actual nouns, we have to count it wrong.  For example... If the students read and article about whales and fish and wrote..."They are the same because...." we would have to  mark it wrong because they didn't specify what "they" is.  Contrasting is also a bugger because they have to contrast two things with the words "whereas" of "but" as the connector.  They may not put "and" or it is marked wrong.  For example...it needs to be written. " Whales and fish are different because whales.......WHEREAS fish......".
In this unit, it is up to you as to the language you accept or don't accept but I wrote the examples with that specific language just in case you have the same expectations in your district.  It's good to teach with high expectations anyway and is always exciting to me when they reach that expectation.
My students used to DREAD comparing and contrasting as well as summarizing until I started using glyph craftivities to accompany them.  Now they beg to compare and contrast :)  Here is a preview that you can check out at my TpT store by clicking the picture.

Along with this unit, I finished some Weekly Reading Records (5 different ones) with Comprehension Activities to accompany each night's reading.  I made a preview FREEBIE for you to check out HERE.  If you're interested in more of them you can check them out by clicking the pictures below.

Tired of Being Sick and Tired...and Santa???

I'm so.....

sick and tired of being sick and tired!

Of course...last Friday I start my Christmas Vacation....with the WORST cold I've had in a long, long time.  I've literally been in bed for the last 5 or so days.  The worst thing is that I felt so terrible that I couldn't even work on things.  If I even picked up my computer...I would fall asleep.  I finally got put on some antibiotics because I don't have a spleen and getting this sick can sometimes be dangerous.  I'm finally feeling a little like a human again.  Even went to see Santa with the girls and their cousins.

So tomorrow...I promise a freebie!  I have so much "in the works" right now but I'll give something away to celebrate finally feeling better!  Goodnight all...

Elf Mania

In my classroom it's been elves, gingerbread, and more elves.  Today we finished our elf glyphs that I found on MathWire.  I decided to take a picture of them and put their faces instead of the face provided in the glyph...they are so cute!

You can grab the elf glyph and patterns HERE & HERE.

We are almost done with my Don't Eat the Gingerbread! Persuasive/Opinion Writing Craftivity.
