All in All...A Fun Day

Did anyone have as crazy of day as I did?  I'm just sitting down for the first time all day!!!  At school we did Addition & Subtraction Haunted Houses. I wish I could credit who came up with this, but I can't remember. What a great idea!  I love to do something fun, but sneak in some learning.  The biggest learning my students go out of these haunted houses was putting the bigger number on top in subtraction.  The sad thing is that they didn't notice at first...ahhhh!  They would just subtract 9 from 1 and come up with 8.  I guess I have a lot of work to do. Frustrating...but job security I guess :)
PS..I tried to load some more pictures of this activity but blogger keeps turning it...anyone know why or how to fix this???
Addition & Subtraction Haunted House
We also did the Spooktacular Math Centers by  Hope King...which were amazing by the way.  It kept me hoppin though...even with lots of parent help.  I should have taken a picture of how many treats we had.  I've never seen so much junk food in one place before.  We had so much fun.  It's good to be back.

My entire family came over to my house tonight for Halloween also.  My neighborhood gets hit hard so my sisters, mom, and I stay home and pass out candy while my brother-in-laws, dad, and husband take the kids around the neighborhood...works for me.  We all made appetizers and had a fun night.  Here's a picture of "the cousins" before trick-or-treating.
The cousins
Aren't they so cute?  I didn't go to any Halloween parties this year and now I wish I would have gone.  I found these pictures from the last Halloween party we went to.  I'm decided that next year I'm having my very own Halloween party.  We always have so much fun.  The pictures below are with one of my sisters, me, and my mom and dad. The other picture is a random picture of my sisters and me and the last is of my husband and I at a firefighter awards banquet.  I can't tell you how much I adore my family.  I'm the luckiest girl in the world to have such an amazing and supportive family!  Here's a few pics of us.

This one is from Halloween.
I'm on the left (go go dancer) , my mom and dad are in the middle, and my youngest sister is on the right

This is my sisters and me. I'm the top left.  I LOVE them so much!

Have a good "Day After Halloween" and go hug your families!

Rockin' & Rollin'

I feel so bad I've been neglecting my blog for a few days.  I promise to not let it happen again. I went back to school yesterday after six weeks off and it's been a little busy.  My kids were so adorable...they were so happy to see me...it made me feel so good! I had to assess kids and they needed to go "shopping" for new books for their book boxes for Read to Self. It was crazy, but a good crazy. I really missed those little thirdsters!  Today I'm doing

Spooktacular Halloween Math Centers
by Hope King on TpT

If you have never checked out her TpT store, you better do it.  I've found some incredible things there!
I'm also just starting Multiplication so I made this game called "Rockin & Rollin Multiplication".  It's the first time I've used it so we'll see how it goes.

Late Night Madness

So it's almost 2:00 a.m and I'm still not asleep so....... I finished a couple of more games I had been working on. I'm in overdrive right now as I'm thinking of all I have to do when I get back to work on Monday.

New Game plus a FrEeBiE

I meet with my the sub who has been there while I've been on leave tomorrow morning.  I know where we are supposed to be in math right now so I made a game called Zero the Hero 3-Digit Subtraction Game with Regrouping. It should be really fun. We move into multiplication and division next, but I want to make sure every student has a grasp on addition and subtraction with regrouping before moving on.  Here's a preview of some of the pages in the packet. Everything is included except for dice.

I also made a an addition game called Four-In-A-Row as a FREEBIE for you.  Enjoy!

Back to School...YaY!

I go back to school on Monday!  I'm super excited, yet stressed as well.  Staying in my pajamas, blogging, working on units, and crafting are easy things to get used to :)  I'm psyched to get to see my kiddos and actually teach...it's the meetings, benchmarks, and testing that I dread.  Wouldn't it be nice to just be able to teach without all that???

As I was thinking about what to teach when I get back on Monday...reading comprehension strategies came to my mind first.  Hopefully by now they have Daily 5 (or Daily 4 in my classroom) and M.A.T.H workshop down. So yesterday I made a unit on monitoring comprehension.  I'm planning to making units for the rest of the strategies in the next couple of weeks as well.  I'm working on Activate & Connect next (Making Connections)

This is only a little part of the entire unit but I thought I'd show you a preview of some some of the content. This unit can be used in grades 1-5.  The text you use is what the kids are reading or studying at the time of the unit. One more thing before I go... does anyone know how to get these pictures side by side instead of all in a row?.  I've tried dragging it but it messes everything up...it must be a setting or something.  Us new bloggies are a pain...right:)

Have a great day...I'll check in a little later....I'm working on math today.

Pumpkin Carving Night

Ok...feeling much better!  Felt like I got hit by a truck this weekend :)  So since I was feeling better, I finished my common core I can statements for ela & math with an adorable owl theme.
The correlated standard is on the tummies of the owls.  I'm planning on doing this for other grade levels so stay tuned...I'll let you know as I finish.

I'm also getting ready to go back to school in about a week and am actually looking forward to it.  The break has been nice but I miss my kiddos.

And tonight at my house was.....
PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT!
So now I'm left cleaning up the guts all over the kitchen floor...it was fun though :)
Have a great night!

Foldables! Foldables! Foldables!

Hi everyone!
My new thing this year has been foldables and interactive notebooks. We have interactive notebooks for reading, math, writing, spelling, seasonal, miscellaneous, and social studies.  Needless to say, I spent a forture on notebooks because not all the kiddos can bring all the stuff on their lists.  I'm finding as a teacher and a mom there are so many things on their class lists nowadays.  I spent about $300 on my two girls alone on school supplies this year. It's hard on parents right now so I've had parents in the past, who can, donate extra items from the class list.  This was a great idea so I started sending in an extra box of supplies for my daughters' teacher as well.  I figure we get a teacher discount and if their teacher spends as much as I do in the classroom...then she deserves it.
Anyways, back on track... The topic was foldables.  I love doing foldables in the classroom as kids love them and it's an easy way to sneak in some learning on them.  A lot of the foldables I see are all kid made...which I really like...but sometimes I want it to go a little faster and labeling all the parts of the foldable sometimes takes the kids a long time.  So....I've been busy making foldable templates for units that they could be incorporated into. The idea came from the great blog Get in the Fold.   Basically all I did was just made the foldable for you.  My foldable shows you where to fold and cut. It also comes with picture directions on how to put it together.  The picture below is just of the pictures of the steps you must take to make this but the foldable is in the download...I just didn't make a thumbnail of it.  I'm so excited because I just ordered some of  Dinah Zike's foldable books and can't wait to share activities and units with you. I have a couple units started that are common core correlated with lots of foldables included so stay tuned.
I actually made you all an easy foldable to try out if you haven't used them yet...or not that much anyway.  I usually put these in my interactive notebooks, but I incuded a title for those of you who do not use interactive notebooks.  One tip to getting foldables to fit inside composition books or spirals is to copy it off at 73%.  This seems to fit perfectly.
This foldable is what I'm using in my Patricia Polacco Author Study (I'm working on the entire unit and will have it on TpT soon).  This foldable highlights the book Mrs. Mack, in which Patricia is actually the character in the book.

Also I found another blog giveaway today.  Her name is Andrea and her blog is called Reaching Towards the Stars.  She is a reading specialist and has lots of terrific ideas!  Click on the picture below for the link to her giveaway.  Us bloggies need to stick together so we all have chances of winning these terrific products.

New Posters

Cute way to hang these posters.
This poem went around Pinterest this summer.  I wanted to make something in pastel colors like my classroom so I made the posters below.  They will look like the picture above except my patterns and fonts are different.  This picture is where I got my inspiration on how to hang these posters.  It is from Creekside Teacher Tales.  I love how she put these posters vertically on ribbon.

Here is my version of these posters in pastel colors.  I bought some purple ribbon to hang it on and made a purple bow for the top.  Can't wait to see how it looks.

Moday....I Actually Made It!

I can't believe I made these and it doesn't look like a kindergartener did it...I have many of those projects :)  This is not school related but I included a FrEeBiE for you as well.  I saw these apothecary jars on Pinterest this summer and knew I had to make a "Dollar Store" version.  So I spent approximately $9 on each of these....I l-o-v-e them.  So glad I did it.

I even made some Halloween jars for my daughter's fourth grade teacher ;)

Tons of Giveaways

Wow...there's a lot of giveaways right now.  I've been following
for a while now. I l-o-v-e her lessons on her TpT store and in her blog.  Check out her incredible giveaway here.  You won't be disappointed.
I'll try to list more of the giveaways that I am finding so you will have a chance to win too :)

I Can Hardly Wait....

...to post my Monday Made-It.  I actually made two different sets of apothecary jars (one for Halloween decor and one for Christmas decor).  Stay tuned tomorrow for my post.  It's the first thing I've actually made that doesn't look like a first grader did it :)  I get impatient so my crafty items don't always turn out how I wanted them to.

This was a really good weekend.   Got the house cleaned, hubby and I took the girls to an incredible pumpkin patch that had a corn maze, a little train, an apple slingshot game, and lots of pumpkins.  It was so fun.  My sister and her three year old daughter came with us.  Her daughter Kennedy is the cutest thing I've ever seen with a spicy personality to go with.  She is such a doll.  I also got a chance to work on my common core unit and some fun things as well.  I'm so into making banners...I just can't stop they're so fun to make with all my new clip art.  So I'll leave you with a few pictures of our weekend and my new banners.

I hope you all had a great weekend as well...see you tomorrow.

The two older ones are mine and the
little one is my niece.

Have You Been Boo'ed??

Here's how to play: Choose a fellow blogger that has MORE followers, another that has about the SAME number of followers, and last someone that has LESS followers. Highlight their blogs with links to encourage others to check them out. Don't forget to let your fellow bloggers know that you shared about them. Lastly, leave them some love by offering them a goody from your store as their "treat".

Here are my three picks: Just click on their name to check out their blogs!!

There is so many of you I want to boo for because I've loved what you ALL have taught me the last couple of months while stalking following your blogs.  So I'm going to find people that have left to be boo'ed.  Here are the three people I'm boo'ing plus the reasons for doing them (wow...that sounds like the beginning of my student's expositories :)

Thank you, Amy, from 3 Hoots for Little Learners for boo'ing and following me :)

I'm boo'ing Miss T from Journey of a Substitute teacher.  She was my very first follower and we communicated by email a few times, she gave me a great shout out....she is the best!

I'm also boo'ing Stephanie from 3rd Grade Thoughts.  First, because she has an awesome first name (just like me....Stephanie).  She was actually the very first person I followed on my school email before I even new what blogs were.  I've admired her teaching and ideas for a long time.  Thanks Stephanie :)

Well, I can't find blogs with less followers than me because I'm so new, but I've always loved Farley's site Oh' Boy 3rd Grade. She is also one of the first sites I began to follow. She always has great ideas and just seems like a  fun teacher and all around good person.

I'm offering this freebie to you all instead of just these three because you've all helped me so much in the past few months.  Thank you all and grab your FREEBIE here.  I don't have much in my store yet, but believe me...I'm working my tail off getting stuff ready for you!

Ok...something funny real quick...I went to type in expositories and spell check changed it automatically to suppositories!  Luckily I found it before I posted or everyone would have thought I was a total nut :)

Have a good night you all!
Remember my GIVEAWAY that ends Tuesday.  Good Luck....

Friday FREEBIE

This is my first FREEBIE Friday...so exciting :-) I've been learning so much about blogging the past few days. I'm so glad I made my own after stalking reading all of your blogs the past couple of months. I don't have a lot in my TpT store  at this time so I don't have a ton of freebies.....yet.  I promise I'm working hard on units right now....including some common core lessons. I've included a freebie today just for my readers.  You are welcome to my file instead of having to purchase this from my TpT store because you are reading my blog.  Feel free to pin if you would like.  Here is your FREEBIE.
Here and here are more like this for free in my TpT store if you are interested.

For my Monday Made It I'm making these beauties...stay tuned on how my Dollar Store version turns out.  Click picture for directions.

Daily Schedule Posters

It's going to be hard to get used to going back to school after my surgery leave ends in a few weeks.  I get my girls ready for school, make lunches, clean a little, and then the day is mine to work on more activities for my classroom.  I've already went through two entire print cartridges in the last two months!  I'm also working on some big units.  One unit incorporates The Comprehension Toolkit by Stephanie Harvey. My second one is a Christmas themed owl pack.  I got the cutest holiday owls and digital paper from etsy....adorable!  Here's a couple organizational items I worked on yesterday.  If there's something you are really wanting but don't have the time, I can work on them for you while I still have a few weeks off.  So just let me know what you'ld like and I'll get on it.  Hope you all had a great day at school.  I miss my thirdsters, but my family is loving me being home.

Watcha Wearing

I was looking at blogs this morning and saw a "Whatcha Wearing" post by Journey of a Substitute Teacher (she is a doll btw).  So... this is what I'm wearing today.  I swear all my outfits are inspired by Pinterest these days.  I love the Women's Fashions section (as well as the education section of course).  My pinterest account has almost 200 pins in My Style already and I just joined pinterest a couple months ago :-)

I just got these new boots from Amazon for dirt cheap (for boots anyway) and I l-o-v-e them!  My daughter and I wear the same size of shoes now so we're sharing our boots, TOMS, and scarves (I'm loving scarves these days).

I was also up late last night (a benefit to being on leave from surgery) to work on a new product.  I know this is a little late since school has already started but I never had time to label my supplies.  My old ones are just worn out and not in style anymore.  So HERE are my new classroom supply labels with pictures.  There are over 180 labels...basically everything you can possibly think of with some blank ones for you to print and use if there is something of yours that is missing.

I also have labels without the pictures HERE.

Have a great Wednesday!

Chevron Supply Labels

I may be a little OCD but couldn't sleep until I finished my new product....the Ultimate Supply Label Pack.  I know this is a little late because school has already starte,  but if you're like me you didn't get all the new ideas you had planned finished before school started.  I had good intentions and spent endless hours working,  but with Pinterest and following blogs the ideas just wouldn't stop!  I've never had as much fun as I had this year decorating and organizing my classroom.  One thing I didn't quite get to was some cute supply labels. So here they are...I love the digital frames on this item.  If you have a chance, stop by Kylie Healey Designs to check out her products.  She has great prices and cute designs plus she is a sweet person to do business with.  I will definitely be back to her store soon.  So if you haven't gotten to labeling your supplies or you're not happy with the labels you have...this item is for you.
In fact, if you follow my blog and leave a comment with your email address by 8:00 tonight...I will send my ULTIMATE SUPPLY LABEL PACK to you for FREE!
Click HERE to check it out.
Have a good day!

Monday, October 8, 2012

Ok...I'm back and I think I learned how to do this.  Because you are reading this blog right now, I'm going to put on one of my TpT items for free until 5:00 tomorrow!  Like I said before, it isn't much yet, but I'm still learning.

Halloween Bunting

I guess we'll see how that works...well I'm off to the craft store to make a new Pinterest creation.  Have a great day!
